United States joined Madrid Union signing Madrid Protocol on November 2,  2003.

Accordino to art. 5(2)(b) and (c) of the Protocol, US declared that the deadline to notify refusal of protection consists of 18 months and, if the refusal of protection is consequent to an opposition, the refusal can be notified after 18 months deadline.
